The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009

On February 17, 2009, President Obama signed the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA), also known as the federal stimulus package. The ARRA is very broad in scope, targeting major sectors of the economy including transportation, healthcare, energy, defense, agriculture, construction, digital communication, and education and training; and was designed to have long-term beneficial impacts on processes and outcomes such as energy consumption, healthcare delivery, and educational attainment as well as an immediate stimulus effect.  Higher education benefits from the ARRA in a number of ways, from operating support for public institutions to additional student aid to new research funding opportunities.  The General Information link below provides additional information on how the ARRA affects colleges and universities and students and their families.   The Outreach link provides information on selected grant opportunities for colleges and universities.  The Reporting link provides a means for colleges and universities to inform state officials of pending grant applications and gives institutions a chance to request state assistance when appropriate.
