The Board of Higher Education policies for planning, developing and approving both on- and off-campus programs in Illinois require that institutions notify the Board of their intentions to do so. The policies apply to
Illinois public and private institutions planning to offer new degree programs, whether on- or off-campus. Out-of-state institutions planning to offer instruction in Illinois are also required to submit a Notice of Intent.
The basic steps toward gaining approval include:
- Submission of a Notice of Intent by the institution and publication of this notice on the Board of Higher Education Web page.
- Submission of an application by the institution for approval.
- Review of the application by the Board staff in consultation with the institution.
- Submission of the staff recommendation to the Board for action.
THE PUBLICATION OF NOTICES OF INTENT SERVES TO INFORM INSTITUTIONS ABOUT PLANNED PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT AND TO ENCOURAGE COORDINATION AND COOPERATIVE PLANNING AMONG INSTITUTIONS SERVING A PARTICULAR GEOGRAPHIC AREA.
The E-Submission format is now available for posting Notices of Intent. During the transition process, NOIs may be found in one of two places on the website. Notices submitted using the E-Submission format may be found in the NOI and Application Search. All other NOIs may still be found under the monthly listings below.
