Governor's Emergency Education Relief Fund


The Governor’s Emergency Education Relief Fund (GEER), using federal dollars, is intended to overcome barriers created by the COVID-19 pandemic and to support targeted initiatives to enroll and retain underrepresented, first-generation, and high-need students at public and non-profit independent four-year institutions of higher education (IHE) in Illinois.

GEER I: Awarded approximately $27M in formula grants to Illinois’ public universities and $3M in competitive grants to Illinois’ public and private universities.
