GOVERNOR NAMES STEVEN LESNIK NEW IBHE CHAIRMAN
Lesnik is CEO of KemperLesnik Organization, which comprises KemperLesnik Communications and Kemper Sports Management.
"I am grateful to Governor Ryan and especially honored to succeed Phil Rock, who served the Board and the higher education community so ably," Lesnik said. "I am pleased to have served on the Board during a time when Illinois has shined as the premier system of higher education in the nation.
"Now, we face difficult financial times, both for the state and for higher education, and we must be diligent in ensuring that vital programs and services are sustained without undue cost increases that could price a college degree beyond the means of some families."
Daniel J. LaVista, Executive Director of the Board of Higher Education, praised Lesnik's experience and said he will bring a strong pragmatic perspective to his new role.
"I look forward to working with Chairman Lesnik as we set an agenda for higher education that advances the interests and needs of students, colleges and universities, and the public while recognizing that resources available to us are not inexhaustible," LaVista said.
Lesnik's term expires in 2003.
Lesnik has more than 30 years of experience in communications, marketing, and sports management. KemperLesnik Communications has represented Fortune 500 companies and smaller specialty organizations in the financial, corporate, consumer, investor, and government sectors.
