June 18, 2002 BOARD ELECTS LOURDES MONTEAGUDO AS VICE CHAIR
Monteagudo has served on the Board since May 1999 and has been a vocal advocate on issues of teacher preparation and P-16 endeavors. She also served as a member of the Board's Committee on Access and Diversity. Monteagudo is Executive Director of the Teachers Academy for Mathematics and Science in Chicago, and previously served as Deputy Mayor for Education in the City of Chicago under Mayor Richard M. Daley. She received a J.D. at Chicago Kent College of Law, and has a bachelor's degree in psychology and education from Mundelein College and a master's in urban education from Governors State University. Monteagudo joins Steven H. Lesnik, recently named Chair,
and Daniel J. LaVista, who became Executive Director May 1,
2002, as the new leaders of the Board of Higher Education. |
