SPRINGFIELD – Governor Pat Quinn has appointed a Chicago attorney to serve as a member of the Illinois Board of Higher Education (IBHE), the state’s higher education policy and planning board that oversees colleges and universities.

Paul L. Langer is a partner in the Litigation Department and is resident in the Chicago office of the Proskauer law firm. He practices in the areas of insurance coverage, general commercial litigation, product liability, class actions and civil rights, providing counsel to a broad range of corporate and individual clients in federal and state courts across the country.

He holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois and a law degree from Loyola University Chicago.

“We are pleased that Mr. Langer is joining the Board,” Carrie J. Hightman, IBHE Chairwoman, said of the appointment. “As the Board’s newest member, his perspective on higher education and its essential role in educating Illinois citizens who are contributing to Illinois’ economic progress is welcome.”

Langer succeeds John Minogue who served on the Board since August 2005.  His appointment requires Senate confirmation.

Ari Shroyer a junior at Roosevelt University, and Justin McDermott, a DePaul University junior, have been elected student members of the IBHE for the 2012-13 academic year.

Shroyer is serving a second term as a student member on the Board, and is an active student government leader and trustee at Roosevelt University. He formerly served as the executive secretary of the IBHE Student Advisory Committee (SAC), which elected him to the Board position. McDermott also was elected by SAC as the nontraditional student representative, and previously served as a Harper College student trustee before transferring to DePaul.

“The Board’s work is always enhanced when Illinois students share their perspectives on the opportunities and challenges confronting today’s college students. I am pleased Mr. Shroyer will remain on the IBHE and that Mr. McDermott is joining IBHE,” stated Hightman.

The mission of the IBHE-SAC is to represent higher education students from public universities, community colleges, and private institutions on state-level issues concerning higher education, including providing input to the Illinois Board of Higher Education.
