Impact of Performance-Based Funding on the Illinois Public Agenda
the Focus of the Illinois Board of Higher Education June Meeting
SPRINGFIELD – The Illinois Board of Higher Education (IBHE) will discuss performance-based funding and its impact on the implementation of the Illinois Public Agenda for College and Career Success when it meets on June 5. Dr. Max McGee, President of the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy (IMSA), which is an advanced, residential college preparatory program for academically talented Illinois students in grades 10-12 created by the State of Illinois, will provide a presentation on how IMSA’s signature programs and statewide activities are supporting and advancing the Illinois Public Agenda for College and Career Success.
The IBHE will meet at 1 p.m. at the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy in Aurora.
“Performance-based funding will positively impact the allocation of the State's resources,” IBHE stated. “It will be a guiding force for achievement of the goals of the Illinois Public Agenda through its ability to expand access for and improve the success of low-income, first generation, and minority college students through the completion of degrees and college credentials leading to career opportunities and increased income.”
“Illinois is poised to be a national leader in its implementation of performance-based funding,” IBHE Executive Director George Reid said. “The inclusion of performance-based funding in the Governor’s budget, as recommended by IBHE, is truly revolutionary. Illinois’ implementation of performance-based funding will prove that each dollar spent on higher education provides a greater return than if the dollar were spent on one of the numerous other competing worthy causes.”
