Dear Colleagues:
As you know, IBHE adopted the Final Recommendations of the Performance Indicators Advisory Committee in February 2003 and compiled the first Performance Report in December 2003. At the time of adoption, Board staff and the Performance Indicator Advisory Committee indicated that periodic refinements to the indicators would be a fundamental component of their implementation to ensure that the indicators remain responsive and relevant to the ever-changing policy environment. As such, we are planning to undertake the first such comprehensive review of the current performance indicators and the reporting structure over the next several months in order to identify any necessary refinements and seek opportunities for enhancement of the performance report.
The comprehensive review of performance indicators, in collaboration with the Performance Indicators Advisory Committee and others as appropriate, will begin this Spring. To accommodate this review process, institutions will not be required to submit effective practices and institutional performance reports to IBHE in 2007. In addition, the IBHE will not be publishing a Performance Report during this time period.
In lieu of the institutional performance report, public universities will be asked to submit the data elements that have traditionally been required for other external reports (i.e., the Comptroller’s Public Accountability Report) and are not available through other data collection activities. A template has been attached for your use.
Please share this information with the individual(s) responsible for completing the report at your institution. We look forward to your participation and ideas as we begin this review process. If you have specific questions or concerns, please contact David Smalley, Associate Director, at Smalley@ibhe.org or (217) 557-7348.
Sincerely,
Judy Erwin
Executive Director
