GOVERNOR NAMES JOLIET BUSINESSMAN TO IBHE

SPRINGFIELD – Governor Rod R. Blagojevich has appointed Jay D. Bergman, a member of the Illinois State University Board of Trustees, to the Illinois Board of Higher Education (IBHE). Bergman succeeds Steven M. Taslitz for a term ending in January 2013.

“We welcome Jay Bergman to the board,” said IBHE Chairwoman Carrie J. Hightman, “and look forward to his contribution as we advance several higher education initiatives.”

Bergman, a Joliet resident, is the President and CEO of Petco Petroleum Corporation of Hinsdale and Chairman of the Board of American Heartland Bank & Trust, Co., a Chicago area bank.  He is a graduate of Illinois State University with a degree in business administration. Bergman brings significant higher education experience to the IBHE, having served on the ISU Board of Trustees since 2003 and having been a director of the Illinois State University Foundation since 1986.

“I look forward to serving on the Board and working on such critical issues as developing a master plan for higher education and helping all levels of education – from preschool through graduate school – work more closely together. Both of these initiatives will help us prepare students for success in today’s workforce, and I am eager to contribute to these efforts.”
